Mainely about Maine

Hubby and I are packing up the rv and cleaning house for the house sitter. We’re headed to Maine.
If we didn’t live in Canada I think I’d pick Maine.
We will spend one week at an archaeological dig site—- where hubby will be instructing ways to store finding data (yawn) ——and I will be digging.
Yahoo!
I’ve always wanted to and now, at 52, I’ll be starting it.

After that we will spend some time at glorious Boothbay Harbour.
I just love this special place.

Then hubby will be quite out of vacation days and we will return home and welcome my folks for a stay.

During the “cold spell” I got it in my mind that I needed a Halloween rug to work on. I sketched out a headless horseman and Ichabod Crane silhouette and began hooking. I’m calling it HOLLOWEEN.
I’ve packed this for cool evenings in Maine.
I have a gorgeous wool from the Wool Studio that I had in mind for the background but it needed more of a bright glow, so I hooked a row of orange around my horse first.
The wool is Hocus Pocus.
Isn’t it great?

You can beat $24/yd folks.

Visiting my sister in Charlotte NC was lovely. We decided we’d do a book study together from a distance and this is what we chose:

Sister goes to an organized church service weekly; I’ve long been out of that scene but am still part of Church. So we are very different in the way we worship Jesus but we’re going to find out more about each other’s faith journeys.

My little table in the shared back yard of our rental space has a happy basil, poinsettia, and pregnant onion. The ranunculus is up but no sign of a flower. Hmmm.It will be nice to have a big yard again but this little bit of green gives me smiles.

Your rug is going to be F.U.N.!
Any news on the house front? You have been in a rental it seems for ages.
Safe travels!!! I have been many places, but never to Maine.

When I was younger there were two things I wanted to do, well, more that two really. In my teens I wanted to be a cop and the town cops laughed at me and said I'd be the meter maid. In my 30's I wanted to work at an archeological dig site and another was live among the Native Americans in the Midwest. Those desires were never met for me so glad you'll have a go at it. Meanwhile I get my enjoyment by watching ExpeditionX with Josh Gates.

Last time we went it was Fall and we thought the gardens wouldn’t have enough in bloom. Thank you for this reminder!

No news on a home— it will be 2 years in August… Maine is especially lovely north of Kennebunkport , fewer tourists.

Well I’ll try to give good descriptions so you can live vicariously. And you’re never ever too old. As a teen I painted walls at Ganado reservation in Arizona. The place was both depressing and inspiring.

I love your sense of adventure. I hope the weather is not too hot or wet to dig. It sounds like work, lol...
It must be that I'm so tired of weeding that lounging in the shade would sound like a good vacation to me.

Have a safe and fun vacation. Your Halloween rug is looking good.

Hugs,
Julia

You had me at Halloween LOL. I have always loved The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I think this rug is going to be awesome..and, yes! I love the wool! How could you not love it with a name like that?? Lucky you to be going on a dig! Is your husband an archaeologist? What kind of dig site is it?? I'd love to go to Maine some day. It looks absolutely beautiful. Have fun - and post lots. Some of us live vicariously these days. 😬 ~Robin~ (PS...You should be getting mail one of these days....)

Hubby is a research librarian here at the university. The archaeology dept falls under his care. This is a precolonial site. I’ll look for your mail on my return, thanks in advance!!! A couple friends are touring Salem in October. I don’t think I can go. But we’ve been to Sleepy Hollow, Ny. I too have always loved that tale!

Your trip sounds fun, love finding things at the beach and I used to find little treasures from the farm, when I worked in the garden, once I found an arrowhead. I have been up the coast of maine, but never stopped in Boothbay area, so maybe we will get up there next month or early fall. Have fun and look forward to hearing about your adventures.

Boothbay is a charming gem. Lots of sailboats, hiking and not the crowds that Bar Harbor has!

I have long wanted to go to the Farnsworth museum but we may get to Rockland this trip! I’m glad to hear you know Boothbay

Thanks Janice! I love crab, am less fond of lobster. Believe it or not we’ve not had any seafood yet
