19th century hooked rugs

Another trip to one of my favourite places, Kings Landing, NB Canada.

My friend canceled at the last so it was just me. So this time I went to homes that I hadn’t visited in a while. These hooked rugs (and a couple quilts) are from the 1800s, according to KL.

The patterns are charming, some of the colours don’t do a thing for me. But sometimes I forget that the rugs were primarily for use and secondarily for beauty.

And this is what historical actors are working on today, chair pads!

Wow!! Sounds like you have treasure trove of great historical places to visit in close proximity...lucky you! Wonderful rugs....although I am partial to that first one...and I am in serious love with that red and white quilt!! I would love to watch the process they are using to make those rug pads....I've never seen anyone putting the binding on as the piece is hooked....and that hooking frame! ~Robin~

The red and white quilt makes my heart patter too- I favour simpler colour numbers in quilts- two to three tops. Some of my hooking friends also bind chair pads before beginning. They find it easier
