April Hookings & Happenings

With both offspring in NY now,  holidays alone can be a bit too quiet. On Easter, hubby and I took a trail walk, watched videos posted from my family in NC, and had pot roast.

The rains have meant the river has been high but the house is safe.

I’ve been hunting treasures at thrift stores and putting them on fb marketplace. I find it fun but I think
I should branch out to eBay as there is more audience. Anyone with similar experience?

My 7 ft hall runner rug is almost done. I have four squares left to hook.

More photos when it’s all done. I still have a half bin of worms left!

Next weekend is the hook-in/ sell & swap I am hosting. Twenty signed up, which is a good number as I’m not used to cooking for big crowds.
Our schedule for the day is: hooking in the morning with muffins coffee and tea , a lasagna lunch, and a one hour sell & swap time. About half the people will be selling supplies.
I made sheep name tags for everyone and I put together 8 table centrepieces which I’ll have a draw for.
The containers are those planter pots that are biodegradable. They turned out cute and cost all of $8 to make. (Not including wool cost).
It should be a fun time.

If you hook, I wonder if you’ve seen people hook on mesh trash cans? It’s a popular thing up here as the cans are cheap at the dollar store and they hook up quickly— unless you hook over ALL the metal. A woman in Nova Scotia made these as Easter baskets for her grandkids. People are so clever.

Our lease is almost up on our sweet cottage by the river and we’ve not found a home to buy. Eeeks!!! We both love the area and hope we can find something here but perhaps we’ll end up back in town.
Simple homes cost $375,000 + now.

This eclipse is supposed to be very visible in New Brunswick. That would be cool!
Happy spring to one and all

I stopped selling on ebay when they asked for my social security number. Regarding buying a home, have to consulted with a real estate agent? You can tell her the amount you want to pay, the area you are willing to move to, etc. She should have access to multi-listings and reduce your need to drive around and looking in newspapers.
I like your hooking project and it looks like you've accomplished white a lot since your last posting.

Have fun at your group 20 is a good size amount.
I love the baskets hooked but I have not done them myself.
I do hope you find something soon to purchase in your chosen area.
the prices of houses goes up and up all the time.
We had a smaller group for Easter but it was still more people than most have or Easter.

Easter was a quiet affair here as well. It sounds like you've been keeping yourself busy. I can't believe how much progress you have made on your huge runner. Very impressive and I love how it has a stained glass look. Have fun at your hook-in. The ones my neighbor does are only half that number. She cooks wonderful lunches and puts a great deal of work and planning into them. I've not seen the hooking on mesh baskets before. How clever! I used to sell a great deal online but I had my own FB selling group and it had a bit of a "twist.". (There was a story line and I did it in an auction format with a different "theme" each week, etc. It was a lot of work and I finally gave it up. But I still have so much I could sell.). Many, many, years prior I did sell on Ebay but the fees got too high. Anyways, good luck! And good luck with the housing situation. I guess I had assumed that you were trying out the river house and decided you'd liked it enough to purchase. ~Robin~

What fun!
Your runner is "amazing" and you will feel such a sense of accomplishment when it's complete. You may have inspired others to do the same.
Love your center pieces for your hooking event - should be fun. Wish I could be a part of it.
It is hard to have family move away....glad you made the most of it and made your own new tradition.
Hope you are able to find something in the housing department that is suitable for you. The magic of living in the woods is unlike anything else.
Hugs!

Your runner looks amazing! Those darn worms multiply while we sleep. My rug I am working on...though not nearly as large as yours...is not making a dent in the worm tubs!
Your hook in sounds like so much fun!!!
I have seen those mesh baskets being hooked on, but I saw the cut needs to be quite narrow and that's not my style.
I thought you were buying the cottage you are currently in...or am I imagining things (which is totally possible...lol!)?
The city I live in (30 miles west of Cleveland) is almost at the center line of totality. The county is expecting .5 - 1.5 million visitors. Praying the weather will cooperate.

Your big runner is beautiful. It will be nice to have it all finished.

I too thought that you were planning to buy the cottage. The price of houses has increased so much. Our house insurance and property tax have also increased a lot and now even the power rates also increased and everything else.

We also had a very quiet Easter dinner this year. So much food for just the two of us.

I had planned on going to the hook-in but would not be able to stay very long because of circumstances. I'm sure it will be a great success.

Hugs,
Julia

Isn’t asking for an ss # illegal?! We have a buyers agent. But a horrible housing market with people going into bidding wars at times. I’ve enjoyed the runner but I’m ready to be done now! Thanks Saundra

I try to be positive on festive occasions. Couldn’t this time. 😩
Yes, the hook-in should be fun.
We will find a home eventually. I will post when we do. Thanks Cathy and happy spring!

I feel like I’m busy but I do have time to hook. The runner colours aren’t typical of my usual primitive look- but the object was to use up wool and I had lots other people had given me.
The hook-in will be in our community centre which can handle greater numbers but this will be more intimate. Fingers crossed the snow forecast peters out by Saturday!
Your sales method was a live auction on fb? It sounds exhausting but creative. EBay does have greedy fees. There’s a story behind why we’re not purchasing this cottage; but yes that was the original plan. Hope you’re doing well Robin

I’m looking forward to Saturday! The runner will need a good ironing and de-furring as my cat won’t leave it alone. Thanks for popping in!

That sounds like a fun hook in and your centerpieces are wonderful. The mesh pails are a cute idea and something different.
