Made easier by photographing piles we constructed then looking at them thru grayscale filters (silver tone on my phone), on our phones and iPads. As you can see, I did a fair job separating these by values, I’ve I got the hang of it.
Caroline is a fabulous rug hooker and a natural instructor. Lots of laughs, tea, and cookies added to the
fun weekend.
Our big guild here in town is having their 40th year hook-in and celebration in May. I’m collecting ruby coloured glasses and 40th anniversary knickknacks in the thrift stores I frequent. The sign-up reached capacity in three days. Wow.
In other hooking news, New Brunswick Mat Registry held another registration for mats hooked 25+ years ago. I was trained at the identification station, charting everything from loops per square inch to type of foundation. Fellow blogger Julia was working there too!
In reads, I finished Bellman and Black, recommended by Robin of Cranky Crow. A good read by a talented author. I’m back to my beloved cozy mysteries; I vastly prefer the ones written in 1990s and before as the writing and plots seem so much more intelligent. This is current read:
August will mark our third year in the small apartment half underground. Yesterday we hit the roads to determine how far we’d be willing to live out of town and still travel happily enough to work.
Our agent told us that if we were pretty happy with a house we saw we should just jump on it. Sigh. I don’t know about you but plunking down several hundred thousand+on “pretty happy with” is hard to wrap my head around.
On a higher note, the song birds are in full singing gear beginning at 4 am and the daffodils and forsythia are in bloom!!! Ahhh late spring…

If you figure out where April went, please let me know.
Oh, I need a class on values. I hope you will share your project!
It's been three years already since you moved? Hard to believe. You are a better woman than I am. I would have a most difficult time in an apartment, especially one half underground. I once owned a split level home and hated the lower level. Good luck finding a place. Even in the depressed city I live in, homes are selling in a matter of a few days for prices that shock me.
I did not attend the Value workshop but heard positive comments about it.
"Bad Faith" by Aimee and David Thurlo's mystery sounds like an interesting read. I used to read a lot of murder mysteries but haven't read any in a long time.
I hope that you can find a small house that suits you, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. We built our own house in 1977 by cutting our own trees and having a private wood mill sawing the lumber for us. My brothers provided the labor, and I provided accommodation and food. The price of lumber is absolutely ridiculous now.
The value of our house has gone up even though we live in a flood zone and it needs a lot of repairs and maintenance. I wouldn't want to have to buy a house today with all the uncertainty of the housing market and the economy. Good luck to you. Our house is too big for us now but I'll stay in it for as long as I can manage. There is never a perfect solution.
I'm looking forward to attending the HRHG 40th celebration Hook-in. I really enjoyed participating in the Mat registry even though I had no idea what I was getting into.
A wonderful experience and I learned so much in the process. Sorry for the long comment.
Hugs,
Julia
I still don't completely "get" the values things as I am incredibly "challenged" at visualizing anything. Yes, please do share your project with us! Like Lauren, I could never live in an apartment...nor could I live in the city. But I would have an extremely difficult time finding the "perfect" home I think so I sort of understand the agent's "pretty happy with" remark. I would never be able to wrap my head around moving at this point in time....heck, I haven't even finished unpacking from WWR and that seems like forever ago. I really need to get some purging done. Enjoy your spring - funny to think Canada has more temperate weather than Nod - no daffodils here yet - in fact, it is snowing...again. I don't think it's ever going to stop this year. ~Robin~
I would love a class on values .....I tried to read about after after Saundra had mentioned it , but I am a visual learner ....
Moving isn't an easy process , homes around me sell fast and often there are bidding wars . So hard for first time buyers .
My project sure ain’t pretty yet but I will post soon. The apt served its purpose; we saved lots but we are ready to go! Thanks
You and hubby were smart to build. Indeed, the river has risen over the years. Ha ha, we’ve been trained in the registry, now we’re on the hook as experts for future ones! Eek
It is weird that our weather is warmer but you’re in a rugged area! Every move I declutter more. The issue is the wool and the wool and the wool too.
I too am a visual learner. It was easy once my eye knew what to look for. I can’t imagine being a young person trying to save enough to buy and then the high interest rates. Good bless them. Here the average age kids move away from parents is 27.
I have to see color. Am glad April is over, but May is starting off like April here. UGH Glad you had fun at your hook in. Janice
One of the best example of values imo is Primitive Spirit’s Karen Kahl. Her mats are phenomenal. New Brunswickers have been warned that this will be a chilly and rainy month. After some sunny warm days we are not happy!
