Smiles and Tears

Our fundraiser rug is near completion and we’ve got tickets printed for the raffle

The border is several rows of black and one of the blue. Looks nice.

Our evening group celebrated year’s end with a potluck. Can I say I’ve missed a good potluck? From salmon to rhubarb bars, chili and gourmet cheeses. And wines. I am a preacher’s daughter who grew up in Virginia and church potlucks were well deserving of anticipation!

We even exchanged belated Christmas gifts.

The woman in the last photo is out 96 year old member who had been at the church hall for six hours the same day doing  refreshment prep for a funeral!

Does anyone else hate changes? I find them so hard, especially when I’m going through a low time. Thankfully this is not one of them. I think I keep holding my breath hoping things go back to normal but am realizing that they’ve been forever altered, no matter how much the sun shines again. All that to say that I think I’m starting to mourn losses of the last two years… people, pet, friendships… and I’m going to allow that. “A time to mourn.”

And I'm in mourning myself as I just heard the legend rug hooker Barb Carroll has passed.

Thanks for the pictures Kimm, it was a wonderful evening of fun and laughter and of pleasant surprises. Everyone had a great time and went home happy with their gift exchanges and door prizes. You and Beth did a wonderful job organizing the event. It was raining outside but it was warm and sunny inside, especially the beautiful bouquet of yellow roses that was presented to you as a thank you for all you do. I can't wait for the fall gatherings to start. Have a good summer, I hope it doesn't rain too much.

I too morn for the last two years as my house was always a beehive of family visits and shared meals and laughter and it has been quiet and very low-key.

The rug is lovely and I'll be buying tickets for sure.
Hugs,
Julia

No! Did she?! I had not heard. She’s a legend. I went to her place a couple of times - when she had the b&b on her property. I also went to the camp in Ligonier, though I never took from her. She was a wonderful person

Thank you for your comments Julia. Yes, a noisy house of friends is something to mourn being without.

Your 96 year old member looks terrific. May she have many more years of health.
Please share ticket information when it is available...if the rug can be shipped from the US. I know shipping from Canada would be cost prohibitive!

Great fundraising rug...Yes, please do share info regarding tickets. I do not wish to live to 96 but if I did, I would hope I looked like, and felt like, that beautiful woman. ~Robin~

I’ll double check with the powers that be about including y’all Yankees 😃
She is a kind and generous woman too with an insistence on happy hour and a great sense of humour

The rug is looking good! Good lick with the raffle. Kudos to the young lady doing it at her age. Probably what makes her young. Janice
