Gladys Taber

The August heat is absolutely withering-
yet I am awed by the butterfly touching down on the tansy,
the two otters making their way across the stream,
away from a scolding mama bird,
the goldenrod, dusky and plentiful by the road...
August!

And here is my progress on
Good Intentions by Kathy Barrick.

While I loved the colour scheme initially,
I must say that I am tired of stitching BLACK.
I wonder if darkest blue wouldn’t have been a better choice,
but I’ll wait until it’s finished to judge.

My poor hubby has a colonoscopy tomorrow.
It’s not his first, but may I say that it’s
been his most difficult in that we are close quarters
in our rv...
And I hesitate to add that I look forward to ditching
him at the hospital door
(a no-no in the past but a covid rule now)
and heading to the shopping centre!
Time alone!!!!

A dear member of my family has a birthday
coming up.
Since April she has suffered anxiety due to covid so
I am gifting her with a copy of Stillmeadow Road by Gladys Taber.
Taber wrote sweet and easy memories of her life
in an old house (1690s) in Ct.
And she penned very popular Ladies’ Home Journal essays
during the 1960s.
High recommendation for a calming, nostalgic read!

And leaving you with a photo from the porch
of a friend’s cottage we frequent in the summer.
The porch is so welcoming.

oh I shutter to think of the prep for your husband in an RV. I bet you will be ready to drop him off.
Thank you for reminding me about Gladys Tabor I have a couple of her books and I need to reread them. Like you said a good time to revisit them.
love your piece I haven't stitched in so long.
I hope your husband does well and happy shopping

Good luck to hubby. Colonoscopy prep is never fun, but in an RV??? Poor guy...poor you.

I empathize with your husband and since I'm older can claim MANY colonoscopies in my life. None of them were fun but it IS a necessary part of health and calming to know we are okay. It is necessary to ensure we are healthy.

Thanks Cathy. I found only one Taber book at the library so all others must be bought. And some prices are astronomical but there are deals

Thanks! He’s a pro at the procedure — it’s the prep where he suffers as he has IBS

Thanks Saundra! One day the procedure won’t be as invasive—maybe swallow a tiny camera from the comfort of home !

Ewwww....Hope things went well for hubby. I hate the prep so much...can't imagine doing it in an rv (or sharing an rv with someone else doing it LOL). You know, I have never read a Gladys Taber book....thanks for the reminder that I was always going to put that on my reading dance card. We had heat, humidity, and storms over the weekend, but today you could not have asked for a more picture-perfect summer day....I wish I could have bottled it. I'm liking the black stitches...but since you're just coming off all the black in "Salem," I can see where you might find it tiresome. Hope you enjoyed your "me" time and shopping! ~Robin~

Thanks! With more colours stitched in it’s growing on me

A funny / not funny was that hubby misheard the nurse ask if he wanted medication. He thought he asked if he was in medication. Hubby said “no” and the colonoscopy went without drugs. Painful at times and now hubby is considering hearing tests which I’ve suggested for a while!!!!
Yes Gladys Taber is a must read!

Oops that should read “on medication “
