Christmas at Kings Landing

I’m thoroughly enjoying volunteer work behind the scenes at the Kings Landing historic site. Going through the mats here I feel like a kid in a candy shop. But last weekend the site opened temporarily for Christmas in the Village. Sunday was a chilling 24F
so hubby and I wrapped up and headed there. Maybe you’d like to walk through with me…

The attention to decorating small spaces is charming

Yes we sampled these sugar cookies, prepared in an old wood stove. Mmmm

The general store was doing a brisk business with hot chocolate, cider and fudge sales. We said yes to all three.

A Christmas tree suspended from the ceiling of the store.
These horses were decorated with sleigh bells and their breath came out in clouds of steam.

I’m finishing some hooked ornaments I’m gifting for Christmas. I only made four ornaments on commission this year; too busy with other things to put the word out. I’ll post photos soon.

I spent the morning making gingerbread cake, a spice loaf and Moroccan stew. The smell was amazing.

May you pause frequently in the day to connect with others and nature around you♥️

I love the smell of gingerbread cookies and cakes but haven't made either in many years. Yet your description brought out that vivid delightful memory.

I love the simplicity of the decor. It brings back childhood memories. I too love the scent of gingerbread. I used to make some for the tree when the kids were young and I didn't have many tree decorations. I even made it a tradition to string popcorn with the kids to decorate the tree. I can see that you really love this place.

Hugs,
Julia

Simplicity is good for me. Perhaps that’s why I like KL. Simplicity in decor, but a hard way to eek out a living. Merry Christmas!

I love that too. I think it was a German tradition

It’s a scent that knocks one right back to childhood. The cost of a pound of butter has curtailed my baking a bit. The least expensive I could find is $5 a pound in NB

that looks like a wonderful place to spend a few hours at Christmas. I love the simple decorations.
I baked yesterday my husband walks in the house and said "I smell Christmas"

So love the historic Christmas decor! I use to enjoy visiting our Greenfield Village at Christmas time too! Just love the simplicity of it all. Janice

What a treat to see all these wonderful Christmas sights! Every time you share Kings Landing with us, I love it more. My favorite, though, is the suspended tree. I bet your house did smell amazing...although I am not familiar with Moroccan Stew so have no clue what it smells like LOL. ~Robin~

That tree was wonderful. The smell of ginger and spice was the heaviest scent in my kitchen. The stew is from the Looneyspoons cookbook. I took it to our rug hook group party last night. It was a hit

What a wonderful place to visit for Christmas. I do miss getting out and seeing the lights and villages with all the decorations, but have been fighting off Covid, and didn't want to spread that around. Luckily everyone is feeling better so we can enjoy the rest of the holiday together.
